Essay: Encouraging students' Imagination

by: Mark S. Ogonowski, Chéche Konnen Center, TERC

How do scientists use their imaginations in their daily work and thinking? Is there a place for imagination in the science classroom? This essay explores the role that imagination plays in the intellectual work of science. Examples from professional science are reviewed and juxtaposed with examples from the classroom in order to better understand the important but under-recognized role that imagination can play in students' science learning.
