This book chapter explores using models to help teach science concepts that are difficult of understand or visualize. Using an innovation approach, called spiral curriculum, the author suggests introducing core concepts early in the course and then using models and instruction to build on the concepts for the remainder of the year. This chapter highlights several different types of science and mathematical models including theoretical analysis, hypothetical analysis, and qualitative descriptive models. I found this article to be very helpful in identifying ways to use models in my instruction.
