There are many definitions of the term "inquiry". Here the author defines inquiry as a process used to develop a scientific model in order to have a better understanding of a concept. The author provides wonderful definitions for "model", "theory", and "science processes" and an example of what this version of "inquiry" would look like that very closely resembles the version promoted in the NGSS. I would recommend anyone interested in understanding model-building inquiry lessons and all pre-service teachers read this article.
