Unquestionably, conducting successful field studies with high school or beginning college students is complicated, energy consuming, and challenging. Nonetheless, putting students in the field to collect real data, analyze the data, and eventually draw conclusions from the data to create a resource management plan makes it all worthwhile. There is more to forests than the trees—as important as they are—and the exercises that are discussed in this chapter can give students a glimpse into not only the complexity and biological diversity of forests but also their economic value.
