Four of the big ideas represent the basic science content: Size and Scale, Structure of Matter, Forces and Interactions, and Quantum Effects. And all four are interrelated. None of the science-content big ideas stands alone; each informs and is informed by the others. In this chapter, the authors identified connections among the big ideas, their associated content, illustrative phenomena, and learning goals. In addition, possible interdisciplinary connections are described as well as their relationship to the 7–12 curriculum. This free selection includes the Table of Contents, Introduction, and Index.
