At the beginning of the article, the author uses examples to show that activity should engage students in an authentic science investigation. Students always show more interest in exploring the deeper mysteries of the Earth than just gathering data and collecting information. They prefer like to ask questions by their observation and pursue ideas they are interested in. Teachers should design effective activities to engage students in an authentic science investigation. Also, an authentic classroom science experience can help students understand scientific practices in the classroom. Students do not need focus on what was already known but on how scientific exploration might reveal something new. And according to the article, students can pursue authentic questions, make sense of their observations through scientific, and situate their hard-won understandings within the larger context of core explanatory ideas of science and Engineering.
Firstly, students with greater engagement are more likely to come up with more authentic questions. And these authentic questions can help them develop a better understanding of science. Then, engaging students in scientific practice can give them more chance to figure things out. They can share and discuss data together, and then learn how to use data they collected to solve scientific problems. In this process, teachers should be a participant but not a manager and coach, they could practice science together with the students. Also, students should not only ask questions and answer questions, they need to put classroom learning and fit their discoveries into a larger context. In my future classroom, I would like to design effective activities to improve students’ interest in learning science. Then I will encourage them to explore the deeper mysteries of the Earth but not just focus on what we already knew. And although engaging students with the practices takes a lot of time, I will use the effective ways in this article like “authentic questions" and“ scientific practices” to achieve it.
