Teacher to Teacher: Vote, Discuss, Revote: A Formative Assessment Classroom Technique

by: Susan German

This column provides practical advice from your peers. Formative Assessment Classroom Techniques, or FACTS, allow teachers to assess student thinking. This article discusses the Vote-Discuss-Revote (VDR) FACT. VDR provides students with a question or prompt, asks them to respond to the prompt (vote), collects student responses for a class discussion (discuss), and then asks students to respond again to the same question or prompt (revote).
