NSTA Launches SciGuides, the Science Teachers Guide to Internet Content, Resources and Much More

At the national convention, NSTA unveiled SciGuides™ an online "science toolbox" that allows teachers to forego an exhaustive—and often unproductive—internet search for instructional resources and instead use specially developed SciGuides tools to quickly and easily locate targeted science content information and teaching resources from NSTA-reviewed science websites. Teachers can also use the unique capabilities of SciGuides to transform the science content into effective classroom resources by locating and incorporating online lesson plans, tips for teaching the content, and effective student assessments. For an online demonstration of SciGuides, visit http://www.nsta.org/main/SciGuides.

Deadline Extended to Enroll in FDA/NSTA Food Science Workshop

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and NSTA will present a professional development program in Food Science this summer in Washington, D.C., during two separate weeklong sessions for middle school (July 10-16) and high school (July 24-30) science teachers. Consistent with the National Science Education Standards, the programs will offer multidimensional sustained professional development, including content updates by food science specialists; visits to government/industry facilities; presentations by government and industry leaders; hands-on practice with new curriculum materials; and exchanges of teaching and learning strategies. Travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be paid for science educators selected to participate in the two programs. The deadline has been extended to April 6, 2005! For additional information and to apply, go to http://www.nsta.org/fda or e-mail cneville@nsta.org.
