Senators
Coleman and Durbin Launch Senate Science and Math Education Caucus;
House STEM Ed Caucus Holds First Event
Last week the
House Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education
Caucus held their first Capitol Hill event and two U.S. Senators
sent a letter asking their colleagues to join the newly-formed bipartisan
STEM Ed caucus in that chamber. For more information (and to find

Dallas
Convention Symposia to Feature Authors of NSTA Press Books
Of special note
among the 51 short courses for attendees to choose from at NSTA’s
2005 National Convention and Exhibition in Dallas, March 31-April
3, are three new symposia featuring highly regarded NSTA Press authors
on their special areas of expertise:
- Force &
Motion: Stop Faking It! Symposium, presented by Bill Robertson,
author of the (soon-to-be) six-book Stop Faking It series
on physical science topics, covering the content and basic force
and motion concepts you need to teach it in grades 3-8. (Friday,
April 1)
- Picture-Perfect
Science, presented by Karen Ansberry and Emily Morgan, authors
of Picture-Perfect Science Lessons: Using Children’s
Books to Guide Inquiry, presenting their uniquely effective
strategies for seamlessly integrating reading strategies into
Standards-based inquiry science lessons for grades 3-6. (Thursday,
March 31)
- Science
Curriculum Topic Study, presented by Page D. Keeley, Lynn Farrin,
and Francis Eberle, will introduce registrants to a set of tools
and processes using national standards, cognitive research, and
content readings addressing adult literacy, instructional implications,
and more. Keeley is author of Science Curriculum Topic Study:
Bridging the Gap Between Standards and Practice, copublished
by NSTA Press and due in March. (Saturday, April 2)
Symposia include
two live web seminar follow-up sessions, and participants will receive
a copy of the NSTA Press book noted. Class sizes for these symposia
