Summertime
Reading
Over and over
again, teachers have told us: ”We’d like to hear from you in the
summer.” More specifically, “Why don’t you publish in summertime?
That’s when we actually have time to read!”
So I’m delighted
to announce that we are going to do exactly that. In early July,
we’ll mail our first-ever summer issues of Science & Children,
Science Scope, and The Science Teacher.
I have been
talking with teachers for decades, and one telling detail that stands
out from all those conversations is that you and your colleagues
are very busy—a truth that becomes ever more real as educational
challenges mount with each passing year. The chief reason we publish
this journal is to help you balance your busy life—to help you meet
classroom challenges head-on and keep up with your colleagues and
national trends in education.
Based on feedback,
we’ve learned you do much of your planning over the summer—those
precious months when you actually have time to read and think. We
hope the Summer issue will be a big help as you look ahead to the
fall—bringing you plenty of worthwhile ideas and practical help
in being the best (and almost inevitably, the busiest) you can be.
We hope this
Summer issue will help put you a step ahead of your colleagues (and
students) when school opens next fall.
