Young Epidemiology Scholars Competition
Sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the College Board, the competition seeks submissions of original student research. The event strives to inspire investigation of behavioral, biological, environmental, and social factors that affect human health. Students should use what they learn to identify ways to improve public health. 120 college scholarships of approximately $15,000 will be awarded. Juniors and seniors who graduate from high school no later than September 1, 2009, are eligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents. Homeschool students may apply.

Project Learning Tree GreenWorks Grants
Project Learning Tree (PLT) offers educators grants ranging from $50 to $1,000 to implement community action and service-learning projects related to an environmental issue. Grants require 50% matching funds, which may include in-kind services. Projects should address an environmental issue and involve students from preschool to high school in hands-on community action.

Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams High School Invention Grants
Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams is a national grants initiative of the Lemelson-MIT Program to foster inventiveness among high school students. InvenTeams composed of high school students, teachers, and mentors are asked to collaboratively identify a problem that they want to solve, research the problem, and then develop a prototype invention as an in-class or extracurricular project. Grants of up to $10,000 support each team's efforts.
