Department of Education

- Visitors to http://www.careervoyages.gov
will find a virtual roadmap to numerous careers. Information about high-growth
industries and in-demand occupations, as well as the education and skills
they require, appears in sections geared to students, parents, career changers,
and career advisors. The site explores careers in fields such as energy, healthcare,
and information technology, as well as in emerging industries such as biotechnology,
geospatial technology, and nanotechnology. One section offers state-by-state
numbers for “hot jobs”: occupations with the highest annual projected
job opening rates and the largest employee needs.
- Don’t give up yet! This online book is based on the experiences reported
by 53 award-winning first-year teachers. It deals honestly with the highs
and lows new teachers typically face, from the negativism of some veteran
teachers to the supportive behaviors of others. The teachers quoted in the
book also discuss their own role in forging crucial first-year partnerships,
both with professionals in the field and with parents. A Help Desk chapter
lists links to additional resources for new teachers. To read or print out
the book, go to http://www.ed.gov/teachers/become/about/survivalguide/index.html.
