Not only do they help students understand the physical world around them but also provide experiences on which to build later concepts, such as atomic structure and changes in matter. Inquiring About Isopods

April/May 2006

Isopods, which include favorite backyard critters otherwise known as pill bugs or roly-polies (Armadillididae), are intriguing in more ways than one. Not only do isopods easily promote inquiry and help reduce “bug” phobia among students, but they also have the distinct advantage of being able to be kept in the classroom in a humane manner while withstanding close observation and handling by young children.
