Department of Education

- Online Teacher-to-Teacher Workshops: ED has brought together some of the
nation's most effective teachers and practitioners to share their research-based
practices and ways of using data through its Teacher-to-Teacher Workshops,
offered nationwide. To more broadly disseminate the information, these workshops
have been converted to online courses, delivered via video streaming, at http://www.paec.org/teacher2teacher.
The free courses allow K–12 teachers to experience on-demand professional
development in specific content areas. To ensure access, all programs are
closed-captioned. Recently added science courses include Got the "H.O.T.S."
for Inquiry?—presented by NSTA member Gail B. Wortmann—and Science
and CSI: Weaving Science and Math Into Lessons That Teach Kids to Think.
- Federal Resources for Educational Excellence (FREE): ED’s FREE website
(http://www.ed.gov/free/index.html)
contains a Science section with free educational resources covering a range
of science topics, including space sciences, geology, physical sciences, astronomy,
Earth science, paleontology, physics, biological and life sciences, engineering,
chemistry, pharmacology, oceanography, and ecology. The Science site also
has a Careers section.
