Heating up Inquiry with Solar Ovens

Building a solar oven in science class has become a common project for students of all ages. As one with a personal love for science, I must admit that simply building and testing a project like this is great fun. As a science teacher, however, I feel that this project is often underused as a tool for teaching some fundamental notions of how scientists and engineers practice their craft.
