Testing the pH of Soft Drinks

In physical science, students are often asked to identify a substance as an acid or a base through a litmus test. A litmus strip turns faded violet when dipped in a neutral liquid, pink when dipped in an acidic liquid, and blue when dipped in a basic liquid.

How Reliable Is the Temperature Forecast?

Project 2061 suggests “technology provides the eyes and ears of science—and some of the muscle too. The electronic computer, for example, has led to substantial progress in the study of weather systems.” This activity is designed to let students assess the accuracy of internet-based weather forecasts through technology-based inquiry.
