What to Toss and What to Keep in Your Curriculum

As teachers adopt curriculum, they often have the false notion that every page of the text must be read in order to cover all standards required by the state. In fact, nearly all middle school science texts contain so much detail that they are confusing to students. This article encourages science teachers to use the Atlas of Scientific Literacy to streamline their curriculum and create more time for meaningful science lessons.

How Deductive Are You?

September 2004

"Well, since I don’t know what deductive is, I guess I’m not at all.” “Deductive? Does that mean I’m good at subtracting?” These are just two of the responses I hear each year as a new batch of eighth grade students enters my classroom ready to be further molded into budding scientists.
