FUN AND GAMES
Middle level students have a tremendous capacity for fun and humor,
and you can use that to teach necessary science concepts. Allowing
your students to see the fun side of science might be all it takes
to have them remember the lesson or even to consider a career in
science. This issue can help you liven up your classroom. Who knowsyour
students might even lose track of the fact that they are learning
something!
Fun and Games on the Net
In this month's middle level journal, Science Scope, NSTA
members read "Trial by Science: A Forensic Extravaganza."

SciLinks®
is a web-based service from NSTA that provides online content
chosen for printed articles and books. It does so through keywords;

Court TV
Don't miss these free and challenging forensic units. Court TV
developed "Cafeteria Caper" and "It's Magic!"
in collaboration with NSTA to tap into students' interest in forensic
science.

How
to Kick Strategic Planning Addiction:
In his recent article from Phi Delta Kappan,
"Tipping Point: From Feckless Reform to Substantive Instructional
Improvement," Mike Schmoker points out that although we already
know the best way to improve instruction, we persist in pursuing
strategies that have repeatedly failed. He urges us to break free
of our addiction to strategic planning and large-scale reform.
